Most swimming pool filter systems these days will use a 3-way valve to combine the main drain and the skimmer into the suction side of the pool pump. In this video you can see how to pipe in two separate valves for the suction side of the swimming pool pump. In this video you will see two PVC ball valves connected on the suction side of the Hayward Super Pump. One valve is being used to supply the suction side with water from the skimmer and the other valve is being used to supply water from the main drain of the pool to the suction side of the Hayward Super Pump. You can also use a 3-way valve instead of two separate valves.
